You’ll find Eirikgarden just outside the Art Nouveau town of Aalesund, in the island municipality of Giske. Eirikgarden is one of three farms located on the southern part of the island Vigra, about 12 minutes’ drive from the city center. The farm is idyllically situated, on an open, green lawn, surrounded by trees, close to the waterside and secluded from the road, and with magnificent views of the sea, fjords and mountains.

The courtyard

Eirikgarden consists of a main house, a storehouse, a barn, a shed, a smithy and a play house. The main house, where the hosts live, was built in 1848. The storehouse is even older and has been thoroughly fitted up and furnished to become a pleasant living area, where we welcome guests to stay. Both the buildings and the property as such are acknowledged as a highly valuable cultural heritage site.

The courtyard also contains a versatile and child-friendly garden. The remains of a burial mound from the Bronze Age (c. 1500 BC) is even located in the garden. For families with children we draw attention to our two cats, Trulte and Mikkel, our dog Hera, the two rabbits in a cage and various birds in the garden enclosure. From the farm courtyard to the sea-side there is an about 100 meter walk. Olmanneset (the Olman headland), located just below, is the wind surfers’ favorite place when the wind blows from north-east. The shallow, sandy bottom of the bay nearest to the courtyard is ideal for small children.

The house

The storehouse has a pleasant indoor environment, with old timber (log) walls and oiled wooden floors. Floor heating has been installed in the bathroom, the kitchen, the living room and the bedroom on the ground floor. The ground floor bedroom has a double-bed. The first floor has two rooms, both with twin-beds. Other facilities: Bathtub, shower, toilet, washing machine, dishwasher, refrigerator/freezer, TV and wireless internet. The kitchen is fully equipped for the preparation of meals.

The coastal landscape

Within a short distance there are pleasant not very high mountains: Valderoy Mountain and further away the Molnaes Mountain, where nice, short hikes are possible. Godoy with its Big Horn Mountain and Lake Alnes is also a great destination. Here you get a great view of the islands as well as towards Aalesund, the Sunnmoere Alps and the magnificent fjord landscape! The hosts are only too pleased to help with ideas for various hiking expeditions along the beaches, rocks and boulders, or over the marshes and along the meadows. All four islands in Giske have nice roads for biking.

Several beautiful sandy beaches are situated close to the courtyard, fascinating in all weathers! We would like to mention Blimsanden and Roaldsand at the Vigra island, Giskesand and the sand at Oygard on the island of Giske and also Sandvika at Alnes on the Godoy island, all to be reached at a 5-15 minutes drive. The beaches are also great destinations by bicycle, except Godoy to which the tunnel connection is not suitable for bicycles. There is a bus.

Grocery store

Rema 1000 is located about 800 meters from the house: The opening hours are 09-22 (Saturdays 09-20). On Sundays: the service station 200 m from the house, or Bunnpris, a 5 minutes drive.

City and region

A visit to the city centre takes only 10-12 minutes by car; to the airport: 5 minutes. Several exciting and attractive destinations in the region are only up to a 2 hours’ drive away.
